Meet the Author

Mike Martin was born in Newfoundland on the East Coast of Canada and now lives and works in Ottawa, Ontario. He is a longtime freelance writer and his articles and essays have appeared in newspapers, magazines and online across Canada as well as in the United States and New Zealand. He is the author of Change the Things You Can: Dealing with Difficult People and has written a number of short stories that have published in various publications including Canadian Stories and Downhome magazine.

The Walker on the Caape was his first full fiction book and the premiere of the Sgt. Windflower Mystery Series. Other books in the series include The Body on the T, Beneath the Surface, A Twist of Fortune and A Long Ways from Home.

A Long Ways from Home was shortlisted for the 2017 Bony Blithe Light Mystery Award as the best light mystery of the year. A Tangled Web is the newest book in the series.

My Review

A Tangled Web  was a good old fashion mystery novel without space travel, dragons, or monsters. Instead it is about a person looking to unravel a mystery in a small town in order to put thing back to the way they were. I personally enjoyed this book and I read it before bed every night for a week to help me unwind. I was sad when I finished it and I hope the author branches out to write more mystery books.

My Review

Really Woolly Christmas Blessings By DaySpring and Bonnie Rickner Jensen was a very cute book that is both accurate and good for kids. I personally loved the animals as they were all very cute both in character and in picture. The size of the book was perfect for small hands and the pages are not super easy to rip which was very nice for little children. Overall, the perfect Christmas gift for a child Christian child!

Meet the Author

Harlyn Bryan (1985-) was born and raised in Racine, Wisconsin. At an early age Bryan expressed an interest in the arts, specifically writing, sketching and painting. Throughout her pre to late teens Bryan penned numerous poems, song lyrics, and short stories. In 2007 she self-published the novel Wounded to much local success. Her second novel, Wildfire, was released in May of 2017 with the second edition of Wounded following in November 2017. Bryan currently resides in the southern US with her husband and their three children.

My Review

Sierra Vincent was a wonderfully written character that I quickly came to enjoy. I just lover her personality and the struggles she faced as she realized that the part of herself that she thought she left behind was still a part of her. The book was an enjoyable read that left me wanting for more!

Kristen Kish Cooking was filled with not only recipes, but also cooking techniques. I found the book to be well organized and my only complaint was the amount of into content. I would have prefered it to be just recipes and techniques without any extra content.

Meet the Author

My Review

I found the book itself to be well written, but I was not a big fan of Nadezdah “Little Boar” Buzina's character; she was a young pilot with the Red Army’s 586th all-female fighter regiment. Yet, she quickly ended up falling in love with the person who almost killed her. To me it just did not feel real instead it felt rather forced. I felt like the story would have been better if instead of basing it off of real history if the author had made it fantasy and made up a war.

Austiage is a former national-level champion fencer who was born in Washington, DC. She speaks seven languages, attended American University, and is the founder of the Star Individuality Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports youths in developing their unique individuality. My Review

I decided to read this book not for myself, but because I found the topic interesting and I was hoping it would give me ideas of how to help a friend who has self-image issues. I was surprised how interesting I found the book to be. The easy going writing style was a nice touch that made the book feel more like advise from a friend instead of like a text book for self-help. I look forward to using what I learned to help my friend. I might even letter her borrow my copy.
