Bound: A Daughter, a Domme, and an End-of-Life Story by Elizabeth Anne Wood

BOUND by Elizabeth Anne Wood

Book Details:
Book Title:  Bound: A Daughter, a Domme, and an End-of-Life Story by Elizabeth Anne Wood
Category:  Adult non-fiction 18 yrs +,  296 pages
Genre:  Memoir
Publisher:  She Writes Press.
Release date:   August 2019
Content Rating:  PG-13 + M. In addition to its primary focus on confronting terminal illness in the context of a complex mother-daughter relationship, this book addresses mature themes of sexuality (specifically BDSM), death, and illness. Conversations about sexuality are related, sex toys and body parts are mentioned by name, but there are no actual erotic sex scenes. There are healthcare scenes that describe procedures and bodily functions and fluids. There is a fair amount of poop in some scenes. The F-word appears once, on page 167, used in an expletive sense. The word "shit" appears twice, once as an expletive on p. 51 and once in reference to bodily waste and also metaphorically.
Book Description:

What happens when a forty-something, community college sociology professor learns that her mother―a charming, passive-aggressive, and needy woman who hasn’t had a lover in decades―has started seeing men who want to be bound, whipped, and sexually dominated? What happens when that same mother, shortly after diving into her newly discovered sexuality, develops a cancer that forces her to accept radical changes to her body, and then another that forces her, and everyone around her, to confront her mortality? In Bound, Elizabeth Anne Wood addresses these questions as she chronicles the last eight months of her mother’s life―a period she comes to see, over the course of months, as a maternity leave in reverse: she is carrying her mother as she dies. Throughout their journey, Wood uses her notebook as a shield to keep unruly emotions at bay, often taking comfort in her role as advocate and forgetting to “be the daughter,” as one doctor reminds her to do. Meanwhile, her mother’s penchant for denial and her childlike tendency toward magical thinking lead to moments of humor even as Wood battles the red tape of hospital bureaucracies, the frustration of planning in the midst of an unpredictable illness, and the unintentional inhumanity of a health care system that too often fails to see the person behind the medical chart.
* Kew and Willow is Dr. Wood's local indie bookstore. If you put a comment in the order form saying that you want a signed copy, they'll call the author to come down and sign your book. They also do a lovely wrapping job.

My Review
Bound: A Daughter, a Domme, and an End-of-Life Story by Elizabeth Anne Wood is an adult non fiction book that should only be read by those over the age of 18 as it is filled with many adult concepts. As a psychology student I found this book to be interesting as it explored the mindset of the caretaker as she learned more about her mother's life, had to deal with the health care system, and as she had to handle being both a daughter and a caretaker. All in all this is a book I would recommend to adults dealing with a family member facing terminal illness.

THE NUTCRACKER CONSPIRACY AUDIO BOOK

THE NUTCRACKER CONSPIRACY by Lauren Carr
"Wow - this is one INCREDIBLE novel that I could not put down. It had me  on the edge of my seat and I can honestly say that I never saw the end coming. It was full of suspense, action but also humour (done in a way  that only Lauren can accomplish)." - 5-Star Review of THE NUTCRACKER CONSPIRACY by Working Mommy Journal
The Nutcracker Conspiracy by Lauren Carr

Book Details:

Book Title:  The Nutcracker Conspiracy (A Thorny Rose Mystery #4) by Lauren Carr
Category:  Adult Fiction (18 +),  388 pages
Genre:  Mystery
Publisher:  Acorn Book Services
Release date:   January 30, 2020
Content Rating:  PG-13 (Lauren Carr's books are murder mysteries, so there are murders involved. Occasionally, a murder will happen on stage. There is sexual content, but always behind closed doors. Some mild swearing (a hell or a damn few and far between). No F-bombs!
Book Description:

Three years ago, the nation gasped in horror when the President of the United States barely escaped an assassination attempt that left two dead—the vice president’s wife and the attempted assassin.  Even after numerous investigations proved otherwise, conspiracy theorists argue that the assassin was acting on orders from the CIA, FBI, and every federal agency within a hundred miles of the capital.

Aspiring Author Dean Conway is the last person Lieutenant Commander Murphy Thornton wants to spend his Saturday afternoon when they end up at the same wedding reception table. While their wives tend to bridesmaid duties, Murphy is trapped listening to Dean’s latest work-in-project—completing the manuscript of an investigative journalist who’d disappeared months earlier.

“She was number twelve,” Dean says.

“Twelve?” Murphy asks.

“Twelve witnesses connected to or investigating The Nutcracker shooting have died either in an accident or suicide.”

Two days later, Dean dies suddenly―but not before sending a text message to Murphy:

 “13”

My Review
I just finished listening to  The Nutcracker Conspiracy (A Thorny Rose Mystery #4) by Lauren Carr and I have to say the narration and writing quality matched if not surpassed the previous books in the A Thorny Rose Mystery series. I really enjoyed the conspiracy elements especially with how the whole thing just seemed like a fake conspiracy until Dean Conway died and Murphy got a texted hinting that it might just be related to the so called conspiracy. This audio book took me on a wild ride that made me not want to stop listening until the very end!

WHAT DID JESUS SAY: THE SEVEN MESSAGES FROM THE MASTER

Inside the Book

What Did Jesus Say
Title: WHAT DID JESUS SAY: THE SEVEN MESSAGES FROM THE MASTER
Author: Rev. Terry Allan Christian
Publisher: WDJS Publications
Pages: 157
Genre: Christian Nonfiction
BOOK BLURB:
This incredible book organizes the teachings of Jesus using only the words spoken by Jesus and nothing more. The book puts readers into an imagined walk with Jesus on the beach, allowing readers to hear over 500 passages spoken by Him as recorded in the 4 Gospels.
“I was asked one time, where did this book idea come from?” says Christian.
“Well, when I was suddenly called away from motivational speaking at the top of my business career, I knew, I was being called to do what Jesus told me, 30yrs earlier. When I asked Jesus what He wanted me to do that wasn’t already being done, Jesus said; ‘Tell them, what I told them and nothing more, add no comments or opinions.’ With those instructions, I composed What Did Jesus Say: The Seven Messages from the Master containing over 500 scriptures spoken only by Jesus to those who loved and followed Him and I’ve added no opinions or comments. Whoever reads this book will know and understand what Jesus said to those who loved and followed Him and what’s expected from those who call Him their Lord and Savior.
Featuring the “best of the best” of what Jesus said, this book is a ‘one of a kind’. The scriptures, stripped of everything save for the words spoken by Jesus, have been composed into seven primary messages and serves as a daily Teaching Devotional.

Rev Terry Allan Christian 2
Since dedicating his life to Jesus at the age of 23, Terry Allan Christian has been reading the red lettered version of the 4 Gospels as recorded in the KJV Bible. Even though Terry reads the whole Bible, his primary focus is on the words of Jesus and the example of His actions.
Terry grew up in a violent dysfunctional family where he quit school at 16 and left home. He stuttered so bad he could only say 3-5 words in a row. His family and friends mocked him and that caused much stress in his early life.
At the age of 23, he had a near death experience and in which he had a dream. In this dream, he was told that one day he would be a teacher for Jesus. Needless to say, he was scared at first because of his stuttering and lack of structured education however, he always had a child-like faith and trust in Jesus as Lord.
After the dream, he was soon hired by the Dale Carnegie Organization and trained in sales and public speaking, where he met a man who taught him how to visually read. During the next few years Terry read several hundred books on the subject of personal growth.
At the age of 30, Terry became a professional Motivational Speaker and Executive Trainer and over the next 20 years he would deliver more than 2,500 presentations to private and public audiences across America and Canada.
Several years ago, Terry retired as a public speaker after feeling the Holy Spirit redirecting his life. He was led to do what Jesus told him many years earlier. After researching the 4 Gospels he composed the book What Did Jesus Say: The Seven Messages from the Master, using only the Words spoken by Jesus as recorded in the 4 Gospels, without adding any personal comments or opinions.
As in all God called missions it took longer, cost more and challenged him to the edge of his faith. He would later say, he had to read the Book of Job just to understand why this was happening to him and was he being tested or penalized. In the end, he was being tested and by the grace of God, he prevailed.
Now after 12 years of study, obedience, difficulty and struggle, this book is now available in Paperback, eBook, Audio Book and Kindle.
Today, Author and Counselor, Rev. Terry Christian is founder of Foundations for Life ‘Online’ Ministries and he presently lives at Negril Jamaica where he does local missionary work in schools and churches while counseling Christians worldwide online thru his program Christians Helping Christians.
Negril, Jamaica is where Rev. Christian went to fast & pray while seeking divine healing for Bladder Cancer. His doctors gave him 3yrs to live so he created a healing sabbatical and after fasting & praying, and walking the beach for 21 days, he returned to his Doctors and they released him ‘cancer free’.
Terry calls this program: The Life Walk –aka- The Miracle Walk and now offers this ‘restoration’ program online or in Negril, for everyone seeking Life, Health or Marriage Restoration.
Terry believes: WITH GOD, all things are possible, all the time, wherever we live and at every given moment, when we pray, believing.

"Lion I AM validates and assists children to experience emotions in a conscious manner -- essential to learning and gaining self-knowledge.  Scientific research has demonstrated that even more than IQ, your emotional awareness and abilities to handle feelings will determine your success and happiness in all walks of life, including family relationships.   Yummy Me Feels So Good will help you and your child learn to be “Lions of Love,” to consciously choose and express effectively what you are feeling.  Being watchful and strong like the Lion brings acceptance and maturity in the ever changing world of feelings. Then everyone can share this "feeling of magic” and joy with others.”  - Harold H Bloomfield MD, N.Y. Times bestselling author
Book Description:
Yummy Me Feels So Good isn't just another story book. It is something you can use with your kids and grandkids for many years. Simple and childlike, kids identify with the gentle creatures within. Absolutely beautiful, Yummy Me is a genius way of helping children immediately connect with the world of emotions through enchanting animal friends. The images and words are so simple and therefore can be grasped by children and adults of all ages. The book can easily open up space for a dialogue about emotions between an adult and a child, all the while being playfully disguised as animal talk. Children laugh and grimace as they flip through the pages, mirroring the emotions they feel on the pages. Yummy Me is a great doorway to explore the sometimes difficult arena of emotions, both for children, teachers and parents.

Rather than labeling certain emotions as "good" or "bad", these emotions simply get space to be as they are, and encourage the reader to remember that they too will pass. The final message of the book that we are in fact "none of these" me's is a loving reminder that at any moment we can start our day again from joy. "I have seen firsthand how taking out this book can transform a child's tantrum into a smile and eventually bursts of laughter.

Signs in the Rearview Mirror: Leaving a Toxic Relationship Behind by Kelly Smith was a touching audio book that anyone in a toxic relationship should take the time to listen to or read as it might just help them get away and improve their lives. This was not one of those step by step self help books written by some ghost writer, but instead a useful book written by a woman who has been there herself and managed to get out and not lose hope for future relationships.

A GODDESS AMONG MEN

A GODDESS AMONG MEN by Daniel Davidsohn

Book Details:

Book Title:  A Goddess Among Men by Daniel Davidsohn
Category:  Adult Fiction 18 yrs +,  400 pages
Genre:  Family Saga Fiction, Thriller, Historical Fiction
Publisher:  Daniel Davidsohn
Release date:   June, 2020
Content Rating:  PG-13. Sex abuse description and a few situations of violence.
"Readers who enjoy literary-style writing, but with all the turns and twists of a full drama plot are certain to devour this lavish and exciting work by author Daniel Davidsohn. One of the most impressive elements for me was the character development of Christel herself, who could so easily have followed the tropes of a typical beautiful lead female, but has several layers of depth and emotional heartache that she works through as the novel unfolds. The plot is revealed at a great pace to maintain intrigue for the sins of the past, but it also has plenty of surprises and revealing interactions along the way that astute fans will pick up on. Overall, A Goddess Among Men is a very enjoyable work and is not to be missed by fans of high-quality writing and accomplished drama." -  K.C. Finn, Author of The Mind's Eye

"A Goddess Among Men is a fascinating tale of derring-do in the untamed wilds of the Amazon rain forest. Daniel Davidsohn has a writing style that is smooth, fluid and compelling. I found this story impossible to put down and completed it in just one sitting. The author’s descriptive prose of especially the rainforest, its flora, and fauna, as well as its native peoples, transported me there. I was beside the two men as they fought against horrifying deprivation and local political corruption to establish themselves in an industry where a few made a fortune and the rest either perished or were paupers, struggling along trying to survive each day. I particularly enjoyed the strong female leads in the story, especially the women that would steal Julian’s heart. All the characters were flawed and yet the author was able to arouse the reader’s sympathy and empathy even for the thoroughly crooked and, at times, despicable Alan Reid. If you like stories of generational power and wealth, this one will be right up your alley. I thoroughly enjoyed A Goddess Among Men and can highly recommend it to a wide audience."  - Grant Leishman, Author of Just A Drop in the Ocean
Book Description:

From the primitive ruggedness of the Amazon rainforest to the privileged society of New York, three generations experience triumph and tragedy in this saga of loyalty, corruption, greed . . . but one woman has the power to change it all.
In 1907, Julian Welch and Alan Reid meet by chance in the jungles of the Amazon attracted by the riches of the rubber boom. Pioneers in an era of uncertainty, they form an unlikely alliance and establish the foundation for a successful empire, Reid & Welch. However, with Julian's death, the empire is left to Alan, as is the responsibility for Julian's newborn daughter, Christel.
Yet for Christel, there’s no growing up as a privileged heiress. Instead, Alan subjects her to a life few endure, much less overcome. Through her will to survive and being as uncompromising as she is beautiful, Christel puts the horrors of her past behind her and begins to build a seemingly bright future. But when the success built on corruption starts to crumble, Christel will be forced to address the past or pay for the sins of the fathers.

A Goddess Among Men by Daniel Davidsohn was a beautifully descriptive book filled with well written literature, beautifully described scenes, and realistic characters. I really loved the female lead character as she was not just some perfect character, but instead felt like a real person with real strengths and flaws. I am really glad I read this book as it was well worth the read!
