Al-thar

We welcome Sean Dow, author of A Leafy Green World and Al-thar today!

Title: Al-thar
Author: Sean Dow
Publisher: Two Harbors Press
Pages: 466
Genre: Thriller

In Al-thar, (Arabic:revenge) Brent is living a tranquil life on the peaceful Philippine island of Masbate. But the FBI's witness protection plan is not enough when you have destroyed the plans of the world's most feared terrorist group-an assassin is on the way, and his plans are far worse than a simple bullet in the head.

With the violent destruction of his new island home, Dr. Holcomb is once again thrust into danger, this time on an international level. There are only two outcomes in this new high-stakes match, Brent's painful and public death and the destruction of
America's, or the death of Saadullah Abul Ka-beir, and his council.

Brent brings together his cast of memorable friends from A Leafy Green World as he devises the greatest deception ever imagined. The action goes at a break-neck pace from the
Philippines to Washington, D.C., and from a remote valley in Pakistan to the jungles of Sierra Leone in this novel that has been described as almost too real, and too timely.

Washington, DC

“What the hell?” thought Tony Rossi.
Rossi, newly advanced to assistant director the FBI was coming home from yet another late night at the Hoover Building when the stoplight in front of him changed. There had been no hint of yellow, just a straight shot from green to red.
Tony had been absorbed, thinking about the conversation he had just finished with his liaison at the CIA. They had been picking up more chatter than usual. Whether it would be stateside or on foreign soil was anyone’s guess, but it looked like something was on the horizon, something big. Tony’s thoughts had also been drifting to Anne-Marie. For the second time this week, he had been forced to call off a planned evening—he wondered how much longer she would put up with this.
With the sudden light change, the limo in front had slammed to a halt, its nose just into the intersection. With his mind elsewhere, and the anticipation of the light staying green, Tony rammed into its back with barely a moment on the brakes. He was shocked by the force of the airbag, but was grateful just the same. Shaking off the daze, he looked through his windshield at the car in front of him.
Son-of-a-fucking-bitch! he thought, slamming his hand on the wheel. Who in the hell did I just run into? He had noticed earlier that the car had government plates, and he knew they didn’t give limos to run-of-the-mill, first-term senators or other no-name low-level officials, only to those who had risen through the ranks—this was going to be a very long evening.

Tony had no idea, when he took the assistant director position Mike Townsend had left at the FBI, that his world would be so disrupted. He enjoyed the responsibility but he might have passed had he known how much effect it would have on the rest of his life. He couldn’t even find the time to do his own laundry these days, having to hire out even such a simple, basic chore, and his personal relationships had come to a near complete halt.
On a social level, Mike had had it easy when he had the job. Having lost his wife to breast cancer years earlier, and with no intent to fill that empty spot in his life, he had no distractions. That had lasted until he had nearly poisoned Ginger Roberts, the senator in charge of the judiciary committee. In an effort to calm her one stormy winter morning, Mike had given her a near coma-inducing dose of an expensive single-barrel whiskey. The bottle had been given to Mike as a bribe. In an unusual twist of fate, an act that could have ended his career had instead started a relationship that was likely to lead to a proposal of marriage. The thought made Tony smile—maybe there was still hope for him to find someone, as well.
An indignant driver got out of the limousine, looking as if he was ready for a fight.
Shit! Tony thought, shaking his head. Just what I don’t need.
He had hoped to call Anne-Marie, apologize, and see if she could be talked into a late date, or at least a chocolate malt at Tiny’s. Now he’d be lucky if he got to his apartment in time to microwave a frozen gourmet treat from his well-stocked freezer before collapsing into bed, alone.
He rolled his window down, readying himself for the tongue lashing he was about to receive, when, in a freeze-frame moment, the driver’s head exploded—one moment angry, but normal, and the next, an eruption of gore. His tuxedo clad body hung briefly, like a prop from a Hollywood horror movie, before collapsing to the ground with the sound of his last breath escaping from the ruin.
Tony was instantly back to his military training. He dove across the front seat of his Bronco and rolled out the passenger door onto the pavement, positioning himself behind the front wheel after a quick assessment to make sure that his back was clear. Satisfied, he jumped up, ready to rush to the aid of the VIP in the limousine.
His car was rocked by bullets the moment he stood. His windshield starred, then exploded as more bullets whizzed past his head. Still more tore through the door panel, whining like angry wasps as they went past. They’re shooting at me, he realized, not the man in the limo!
A sedan accelerated through the intersection. It turned and aimed straight at him. Tony leaped just before it arrived, cartwheeling over the hood of his Bronco and landing heavily on his hip and shoulder. The sedan crashed right where he had crouched moments earlier, the impact causing the SUV to rise up on two tires before pausing a moment and settling back down with a protesting noise. He was safe from the sedan, but now directly in the original line of fire.
Bullets sparked off the pavement around his feet. Others punched into his Ford, some missing him by inches. Tony couldn’t see the shooters, but knew he’d be dead if he didn’t do something, and right away. With assailants on both sides there were no good choices but staying in this exposed position was definitely the worst of his options. He raced around the back of his truck, gun up, to confront the attackers in the car.
The driver was out of commission, slumped over the steering wheel, but the rear doors were already opening: two, no, three assailants.
Tony had a brief moment where he had the advantage as they were scrambling to get out. He emptied his magazine, squeezing the trigger until the firing pin landed on an empty chamber. It was not the fire discipline they had trained into him, but all three attackers were down.
In a move he had practiced so many times that it was fixed into muscle memory, he ejected the spent magazine and rammed home a fresh one. It was his last. He hadn’t expected a firefight in downtown DC, and he hadn’t come prepared for one.
He turned to face the others—it was one pistol against an unknown number of assailants. From the way the bullets punched through his car, Tony knew they must be armed with rifles—he would have only one chance, to flee. The Bronco was out of commission, leaving the limo as his only hope. If the keys were still in the ignition he might make it. If not, he’d take out as many as he could and then join his father on the wall of honor at the bureau.
The passenger-side door was locked, exactly as Tony had suspected, but he had to check. He raced around the front, firing blindly as he went, and dove through the driver’s door, slamming it shut as his right hand searched for the ignition. The keys were there, still in their slot, and the limousine started immediately. He reached for the selector but a strong arm wrapped around his neck just before he could drop the car into gear. His passenger must have mistaken him for one of the assailants!
Through his dimming vision, Tony could see the real attackers coming. He punched backward as hard as he could, repeatedly hitting the side of the passenger’s head, but each blow he landed was weaker than the one before, showing no effect. In a last-ditch effort, he seized a finger, bending it backward until it snapped. His passenger howled in pain, loosening his grip enough for Tony to get a breath.
“Let go, dammit! Let go or we’re both dead.”
Panicked like a drowning swimmer, the passenger immediately tried to re-establish his death grip but Tony was ready for him this time. He got his left arm up next to his throat, blocking the choke and giving him time to mount a better defense. He was about to turn to face the backseat when one of the attackers arrived at the window. He was armed with an AK-type weapon and was bringing it to bear, a triumphant smile on his face.
There was no time for Tony to reach his own weapon, and no time to free himself enough to drive away from the threat. This was how his life would end, on a grimy, oil-slicked street in the suburbs of Washington, DC, with Styrofoam cups and fast-food wrappers blowing around his corpse. A phalanx of sightseers would arrive, attracted by the gunfire and hoping to get a glimpse before the police had the area walled off. It wasn’t the way he’d planned to go, but then most people don’t get to choose, do they? The truly sad part was that he was just beginning to salvage his life from the ruins it had become after his divorce—the hope and promise that had appeared on the horizon were now to be snatched away.
He looked up to face his attacker—at least he would see who was about to kill him.
Two shots rang out, so close together that they sounded more like one. The attacker stopped, a puzzled look on his face. He fell against the door and then slowly slipped down to the ground, leaving a blood trail along the glass. A man in a business suit stepped up. He was on the passenger side of the limousine, and he had a large caliber revolver, which he held in a practiced way.
“Get the hell out of here,” the man shouted, firing two more shots toward a group of attackers. “There’s more coming!”
There was no way Tony was going to leave his rescuer alone against obviously superior odds. In a fit of strength, he broke away from his backseat passenger and stepped into the fray.
The attackers had not expected an armed response. This was supposed to be a simple hit against an unsuspecting weak American, and in Washington, DC, where no one was supposed to have a firearm. The armed reaction took them by surprise. In their moment of confusion, Tony and his new best friend centered three more with deadly fire, and sent the others running.
Unsure if all the shooters had left, Tony and his Good Samaritan crouched behind the limo. Fortunately, there were no more shots, and the sound of sirens soon reached them, piercing through the night air—a mass shooting in the nation’s capital tended to bring out the troops.
“Thanks, man,” he said to the businessman. “You saved my life.”
“Right place, right time,” he deferred. “Always happy to help.”
He shook Tony’s hand, searching for threats as he did so. Seeing none, he holstered his revolver.
“I probably ought to get going, though,” he added as he stood up. “It’s best if I’m not here when the police arrive.”

My Review
If you enjoyed A Leafy Green World then there is no doubt in my mind that you will also enjoy Al-thar. Dr. Holcomb is back and he is once more in danger. Even the FBI's witness protection program could not keep him safe and out of harm. Dr. Holcomb is still that same character we met in A Leafy Green. I enjoyed how the author blended the events from book one and book two together so that they made sense together. I loved how the book continue to have a fast pace through out the entire book. If book one was amazing then book two is terrific. The author kept all the characters realistic through out the entire book just like he did in book one. I Love You Just Because By Donna Keith

I Love You Just Because By Donna Keith

The third book in this adorable series, I Love You Just Because is the perfect way to show kids that their parents love them just because.

With sales of nearly 75,000 copies for the first two I Love You . . . books, this third addition uses sweet, playful art to depict family dynamics that are grounded in unconditional love.

Through adorable, cuddly art and fun rhyming text, I Love You Just Because will help little ones understand their parents' love for them and that it doesn't have to be earned. With playful artwork and the same friendly bear family you already know and love from Donna Keith's first two books—I Love You All the Same and I Love You Even When—the sweet story of this book will touch you and your family and will remind you that family members love each other...just because.

Parents will gravitate toward the felt need and fun messaging of this book as it seeks to help them explain to their little ones that they are truly loved just because.

My Review
I have to say I was rather disappointed with this book. I expected it to be a story about why parents love children and children love parents, but it is not. Instead each page is its own mini story. Each page also has a quote from the bible that is relevant to the page. The pictures were cute, but they were nothing special to rave about. It is a cute book, but it needs a better description of what it really is. I was sent a free copy of this book for only my honest and unbiased review.

Design Inspired by V created by Rina Rovio

Design Inspired by V

Inside the Book:

Title: Design Inspired by V
Author: Rina Rovio
Publisher: PIK Books
Pages: 152
Genre:  Photography/Art/Design
Design Inspired by V explores the designs inspired by female genitalia. Book is made with a good taste and it is packed with photographs and illustrations showcasing different examples of the use of vulva shapes in a variety of designs from fashion to architecture, from art to every day designs. The book features the work of the most prominent designers from across the globe as well product designs created by unknown designers.
Aesthetically and intellectually stimulating, this volume is a must have for anyone who has interest in any aspect of the fashion and design.

My Review
Design Inspired by V created by Rina Rovio is a book designed to show readers about the many arts, objects, and things that are inspired by female genitalia.Design Inspired by V created by Rina Rovio has many many pictures of different examples that are inspired or designed based on female genitalia. I fell that I need to caution readers that there is a picture of a naked woman in this book, now that is not a bad thing or a good thing, but parents might not want young children exposed to naked pictures and if that is the case for you then make sure to keep the book out of the reach of young children. That aside the book is largely picture based. Some of the pictures have descriptions, useful facts, or interesting information, but most of the book is composed of pictures not words. I found this a little disappointing as I would have liked to have learned a bit about the psychology behind basing the designs off of or around female genitalia. The Know: Presevation by Ed Kurst

The Know: Presevation by Ed Kurst

John Preston sets aside the easy bullet that would end his certain, lingering death. He now Knows too much. His mind has just returned from a wild ride tens of thousands of years into the past, where he witnessed three primitive humans divining a path to save humankind from a fiery global catastrophe. What John now Knows might cure him but could also require that he shred the very fabric of time and space.

John’s quest for answers thrusts him into the lead role to confront the Consortium, a cabal of eight families with the power to Know the future and the past. Guided by John’s latent Know ability and a seventy-thousand-year-old prophecy, he sets out on a path for his own salvation.

Success will mean life. Failure…a cruel doom for all humankind.

Preservation is the first book in the Know Trilogy, which wraps a new theory of space-time, humankind’s evolution, millennia-old conspiracies, and imminent global destruction around a broken man’s redemption, an evil man’s reckoning, and a driven woman’s unique destiny.

Before writing his first novel, Ed Kurst developed mega engineering projects packed full of cutting-edge technology. Combining a lifelong passion for science fiction and fantasy with his engineering knowledge, he now writes about what he Knows. Ed resides with his wife along the US Gulf Coast where the imperious spirits of their four beloved cats roam the nights in bayou country.

My Review
I am a huge fan of science fiction so this book was most definitely up my alley as far as books go. This novel explored new concepts that I have never seen in a science fiction book before. I liked how they even involved real history in the book through the author did bend history a bit to fit the plot line. I liked the concept of the prophecy and characters being able to change history because of their abilities or Know. John Preston quickly became my favorite character in this book. I liked how he handled the situations that were thrown at him and how he was not afraid to seek assistance from allies.  I enjoyed the entire book and I am super excited to read the next book in the series when it comes out. Here is a sneak peak of this book:Am I dead?
I couldn’t hear, touch, move. Bodiless, my consciousness careened down a corridor of utter blackness. Yet there was something there, something my mind was connected to in a way that had never happened before.
Falling into this endless spinning void, I began to thrash around in a panic. At the same time, my heart raced in exhilaration and anticipation. I slowed and then paused in the uncertain darkness. It was as if I was standing on tiptoe at the edge of the Grand Canyon in the dead of night, arms spread wide, waiting for the whipping winds to lift me into flight or potentially cast me into oblivion.
All that separated me from familiar reality was a transparent black membrane. Beyond, tall grasses waved on a moonlit plain, eventually breaking against thickening scrub brush and a forested area. I pressed my consciousness against the fragile boundary and pushed through.
On the edge of the forest, primitive humans spoke in low, guttural voices. I was drawn inexorably to the eldest at the gathering and entered her mind. I was still myself but also simultaneously viewed, felt, and watched from within her at this gathering. Her present, her experiences, her thoughts were now mine.
Immediately sensing my presence, she pushed me gently but firmly to a mental arm’s length and silently commanded, ‘Traveler, observe.’

Why meditate? – The Emotional Cleanse!

Why meditate?  – The Emotional Cleanse!
Meditation seems to be ever more en vogue (well, I might be prejudiced as I work  in the industry, and mainly hang out on e.g. spiritual Facebook forums, but it seems to be featuring more in mainstream media too!). Meditation is said to have many beneficial effects, e.g. :
-  It can help to calm the mind, help us manage stress
-  heighten one’s senses and intuition,
- we can learn to view emotions and thoughts more detached (to not be drawn in as much anymore,  especially by negative thoughts and emotions),
- and ultimately it may supposedly help us reach  some state of enlightenment.
The benefits of meditation can even be measured physically, as the practice causes beneficial long term changes to our brains. 1)
I’d like to talk about another potential benefit of meditation though – The Emotional Cleanse!
On my spiritual journey I had plenty of epiphanies. Moments when things suddenly just come together, I reach a higher understanding, ranging from e.g. understanding why I or someone else behaved in a certain way, to more life altering understandings about life, energies or The Divine. Such moments are usually great, they often feel quite empowering. E.g. I might have understood that anger is a very uncomfortable energy, and that as such forgiveness is not only great because some guru told me so, but because should improve my overall wellbeing! I therefore decide to apply forgiveness to all my troublesome relationships here and now  – past, present and future-  and look forward to a life without anger.
My rational mind got it, but somehow the next time I see an ex-lover, there is still all those feelings of e.g. anger, disappointment or hurt. Should they not be gone now that I practiced forgiveness? Why am I still apparently dependent on ‘time’ to heal my wounds?  - Over the years I have come to understand that just because my rational mind understands something, that does not necessarily translate to my emotional body processing those comprehensions. It feels like emotions are stickier than rational thoughts. Some emotions might actually really have dug in and refuse to heal, change or leave. Such emotions do not give a hoot that your rational mind has decided to forgive and let go. Luckily though there is tools we can use to speed up emotional healing processes – e.g. meditation!
Why does meditation speed up emotional healing? For one, as mentioned above, it can help the regular practitioner learn to become more detached. Learn to view his/her emotions with a bit of distance, a bit like watching a theatre play, and with this not have emotions envelop him/her, and or dig in, as much in the first place. Mainly though, the way I understand it, with an attuned meditation2.) we connect to a higher source of Energy, Love and Wisdom; through this connection we get healing energies flowing  ‘in’, which help dislodge and dissolve stubborn emotions, plus when we then release such emotions,  they are taken up and disposed off safely.  Depending on what you are working on/ trying to release – not everything is going to vanish with a 30min meditation. More complex and or traumatic energies can take a few sessions. E.g. getting over my last ex, who turned out to be quite a nasty narcissist, and with the relationship only lasting circa 3 months, took a good 5 weeks of intense cleansing. That can feel like a lot, but then I remind myself that in pre-meditation times any break up took a minimum of 6 months to heal, with the initial pain being much more all-consuming…
And why meditate regularly? Well, most people’s lives can be quite stressful. There might be  that bit of road rage on the commute to work, that impossible co-worker, plenty of bad news on the news channels, a troll on your social media feed, etc, etc.  Meditation can be a bit of an emotional reset button, getting rid of day-to-day emotional turmoil too.
Meditation is not the only spiritual tool available to optimize emotional healing - other (spiritual) tools are e.g.   – Spiritiual Healing/ Reiki, special visualizations, special prayers, or EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique).

Title: Tours and Cures of a Lightsoldier
Author: Alexander King
Publisher: O Books
Pages: 370
Genre:  Self-Help/Self-Discovery/Spirituality

Tours and Cures of a Lightsoldier is a revolution in the Self-help book world. It shakes up the status-quo, by questioning and uncovering the illogical, cold-hearted or incomplete in spiritual teachings. But Alexander King then attempts to find understandings which allow for the Divine and the basis of Life to be truly loving and intelligent again. Perhaps to keep ascending on the spiritual path one has to keep evolving ones self-help literature as well? Tours and Cures of a Lightsoldier does not just stand still, and repackages existing esoteric teachings – it is moves forward with brutal honesty, but thorough positivity!
Tours and Cures of a Lightsoldier tells the true story of one person’s incredible quest for self-discovery, and the answers to why we are here and what exactly we should be doing with our lives. From an inquisitive childhood, full of promise and expectation, we follow Alexander down a much murkier path to the all consuming world of a modern day cult. And then a battle for identity ensues…
Initially Alexander King, studying for a medical degree at the time, did just want to learn about Spiritual Healing, but the Teacher/Guru he found turned out to be the manipulative and sociopathic kind. A great battle for survival, to de-mask the Guru, and ultimately to de-program himself again ensued.
From this baptism with fire a stronger, more grounded Alexander emerged. All was not all well yet though, as after the cult, a few years of Chronic Fatigue followed. They gave Alexander the chance though to really test all sorts of spiritual tools and teachings on himself, to see which could actually stand up to the often so high flying promises they come with. In recent years Alexander King has worked as a full time masseur and healer and, through his dealings with many different clients, has learned even more about energies, and how they appear to work on this planet. In his practice Alexander King endeavours to help his clients to better health, healing and ‘enlightenment’ in a realistic manner.
Tours and Cures of a Lightsoldier starts as a personals story but finishes as a most unique and encompassing encyclopedia of esoteric practices and teachings.

Book Praise:

This is a fascinating book because we get inside the thoughts of the author, who is himself a healer. It is a kind of journey we travel with him, as we learn how he arrived at where he is now, all the pitfalls and all the logical thinking processes ( yes, this author reasons with logic - his early training was in medicine). We are taken thorough all the weighing up of facts and possibilities, and the battles. It is a very frank, honest, and for a book of this kind of topic - strangely realistic. The author avoids merely restating in repackaged form material which is covered in other books. What we get instead is his own unique insights and perspective, and his own application of methods. Reading this book has led me to modify my own practices, and to substantially reconsider some of my own views.

There is much to be applauded in this book, from the courage it takes to follow your dream, to the bravery of standing up to those who seek to destroy it and to then speak up about the great untruths that still exist in this world, masquerading as fact. Take encouragement and guidance from this book and live your truth today!

Book Excerpt:
Introduction

Why I Had To Tell This Story…

It has taken me years to begin to write this book, because I had to test and retest my beliefs/conclusions and their effects on my life, before committing them to paper. I am sincerely hoping that this book shall bring more clarity, and not add to the tangled mass of confusions out in the Mind-Body-Spirit (MBS) market, which often lacks open, critical thinking. People seem afraid to question esoteric or spiritual teachings, especially if they are claimed to have been channeled by Angel X, Spirit Guide Y or enlightened Alien Z; forgetting that these teachings have been channelled through human beings, and we are not infallible.

I don’t doubt the ultimate goodness of the Divine, but I am cautious about people’s perception, understanding and teachings of all things divine. That is why I have my mind to filter out the true, good and wise intuitions, from all the other input I receive when opening up. I urge you too to keep your head screwed on, feet planted firmly on solid ground, while perusing my thoughts, explanations and beliefs. Feel free to question and test them as often as you like. I have seen and felt too much suffering coming out of what first seemed liberating esoteric or religious ideas to be offended by any caution on your part.

I write about my experiences, my thoughts and ideas, which have shaped my beliefs and understandings. I am aware it’s not a ‘movie star’s’ life, still I believe it has interesting and entertaining elements, that might just help you to understand how I have come to see the world and what life on this planet is about. The examples I use in this book are just that, examples. In the past, maybe because of my German heritage, I would take many things very literally, which sometimes led to unnecessary fears or feelings of guilt. So please read my examples with a pinch of salt and consider that ‘exceptions make the rule’ i.e. examples that may be suitable for some might not be all applicable for another. The same applies when trying to find a balance between connecting to you the reader and not sucking you in, but leaving you room to make up your own mind, whether you choose to agree with my conclusions or have your own – if I do say ‘we’ and you do not feel comfortable seeing yourself as a part of that ‘we’, please feel free to assert your own belief.

Whereas many prominent esoteric authors, healers and lecturers lay claim on having been born with the gift, having had some life-changing spiritual experience, such as a visitation by an angel or perhaps having ‘hooked up’ with some spiritual being during an automatic writing session, I am one of the many more who just happened to start reading about ‘Lightwork’, ‘Spiritual Healing’ etc. and decided to learn and understand more about it.

On my path I have encountered countless, seemingly bottomless abysses of guilt and doubt. Were it not for my innate stubbornness and a good deal of help from ‘Above’, I might have given up on Spirit or Life altogether, long ago. The main reason for this book is to hopefully spare you a few of those mind traps and feelings of paranoia that can be so debilitating. And if you have come to the same conclusions as I already, then perhaps you will get comfort from discovering you are not alone.

I am aware that, from say a psychiatrist’s view, some of my experiences could possibly be diagnosed as bipolar, paranoid and/or schizophrenic – but then one just ends up with the same old debate of whether there are divine powers/spirit(s) (which one can communicate with) or if we live in a purely materialistic world. I am not a radical creationist. I do see the merit and worthiness of science. However, if we look at scientific history, we will often find many a scientific accomplishment would never have been possible without scientific visionaries, who pursued their ideas against all odds. If something cannot be measured yet, that does not disprove its existence; it just points out that the proper measuring tools are yet to be discovered.

I hope that this book will help you get some fresh perspectives or give you healing tools you might not have considered yet. For me the spoils of wandering the spiritual path are diminished fears, serenity, having fewer questions and knowing who, what and why I am. I’m much less likely to be shaken up, by what seem unfortunate events now, because there is a certainty, rooted deep inside me, that all is going to be good. My spiritual path has also taught me greater patience and to manage my expectations. ‘Ultimate Good’ is working full speed on the fulfillment of my harmonious dreams, and they are allowed to be ‘big’, but for all sorts of reasons they can still take time to manifest. It’s not that miracles don’t happen, just that they can take a lot longer to manifest than one is often led to believe when reading other esoteric books.

The spiritual tour can be stressful and sometimes perilous. My own journey definitely got worse before things started to come together and improve. Initially I ended up in a cult and afterwards for almost ten years I suffered from ME, so my experiences with spiritual tools and techniques could be said to have gone through some good stress tests, which have helped me to sort the wheat from the chaff. I often feel that I am in the midst of a battle between ‘Lighter’ and ‘Darker’ energies. I feel though that with Ultimate Good support I am as safe as can be during these battles, but that does not mean that they are always pain free. This book may well shake up your belief systems and rattle your peace of mind. If you bear with me, I hope you will find peace in my conclusions. To those who might get upset about my writings and criticisms – I am sorry. I pray you’ll come to forgive me, as I have forgiven all those who have caused me upset and pain with some of their spiritual wisdoms, beliefs and ideas, which I found to be wrong or incomplete.

I am a great optimist and think all suffering can be overcome with the right approach, help and patience. Spirituality, spiritual healing tools are complementary forms of healing though. So if you are ill in any shape or form, this book does not suggest you flush away all your medicines and shout, “I’m healed!” never to set foot in a doctor’s practice again. If you believe you have been healed, get it verified by a doctor. I studied medicine and saw the compassion in my fellow students and our teachers. Furthermore I spent a year in a medical research facility and saw the love and unpaid overtime that went into research by doctors and scientists there too. There are ongoing developments for medical treatments to become less invasive, more effective and with diminished potential side effects etc. I do not think that generally doctors are out there to poison their patients.

Where medical treatment of one’s physical body should be one’s own decision (where possible), I would never recommend ditching your doctor. Sure, educate yourself about your ailments, different treatment options, do not just trust blindly, get a second opinion etc. In my opinion it’s likely though that medical treatment, if one is sick, will often buy time, give more strength or diminish some pain and hence enable you to resolve other issues causing the dis-ease, which might have to be approached with complementary means.

I see that the true purpose of our being is simpler and far more positive than many religions/belief systems purport. It is perfectly alright to strive for happiness in life. That includes striving for, affirming and living creational essences, such as intelligence, creativity, beauty, abundance and sex. Our bodies were primarily created for us to enjoy and to experience the world around us on physical, emotional and sensory levels. On this planet we can choose to take our bodies on a roller coaster of suffering, but once we decide that we have had enough, we are allowed to fully utilize their potential for joy. My moral compass points to the notion that what I do not want others to do to me, I do not do to them. And this book is my tour of discovery, which I hope in some way will make your journey less fearful and ultimately more joyful as well…

Upper Dir valley, Pakistan

“How well do you trust him?” asked the voice over the encrypted satellite phone.
Farouk was always amazed at the technology that allowed him to have a clear conversation with someone halfway across the world. It was an honor to have been put through—he was speaking to Saadullah Abul Ka-beir himself, the imam who was guiding the war against the great Satan. He was a merciless warrior, a genius, and a master of planning—the best hope Islam had ever had of ridding the world of the Jews and of bringing in the glorious caliphate, and Farouk was actually being allowed to speak directly to him!
Even with the encryption, he had been instructed not to mention names or give any salutations that could be used to identify the man on the other end. The Americans were always finding ways to listen in on their conversations. The only truly secure communication was by courier, and the time delay involved in that was often unacceptable. Going in person to see the imam was out of the question. It would take almost two days to fly to Peshawar, and from there it was another grueling six hours to reach the blessed valley in Upper Dir where the council was sheltered.
"Six hours, that is, in the daylight," thought Farouk. Travel now had to be at night. The daytime skies were filled with silent death. So many heroes had died before their appointed time and with nothing to show for their deaths. The Americans struck wherever they pleased; there was no sovereignty, no shelter. Even in his own country, his leaders were forced to live like animals, cowering in damp caves and afraid to show their faces, lest the devils strike from the sky. It was an abomination, but it was also reality—Farouk prayed on a daily basis that he would live long enough to dance upon the graves of the infidels who forced the great leaders to live in such a demeaning manner.
In the meantime, satellite phones had become a necessary risk. They were effective, but information still had to be kept to a minimum, conversations as short as possible, and specifics avoided. No one knew if the enemy could listen in, but even if not, it would probably be only a short time until they could.
“I trust him completely, Sheikh,” Farouk said. “Enough to insist on a chance to bring this information to you. We have the opportunity to achieve the dreams of our people, and in our lifetime. This man is high in the ranks of a group that has lived for years amongst the devils, fighting them constantly, and they have never been penetrated.
“I also worked with his father, a man of great integrity whose efforts are largely responsible for my financial independence. I can say with certainty that this man can be trusted.”
“You realize what will happen to you and your family if you have been deceived?”
“Yes, Sheikh. As always, I put my life in your hands. We are searching his past and will watch everything he does, but I sense the beneficence of Allah in this man.”
“Very well. We will discuss this. In the meantime, continue your vigilance but do not go any further. You have already taken a great chance talking to him. You will find the fires of hell to be a welcome relief if your actions bring any damage to our cause.”
The call ended. No Salam alaikum, no Allah ysalmak, just silence. Silence and a feeling of dread. What if I have let pride interfere with my judgment? Farouk worried. Have I let the lion in the door?

My Review
The Leafy Green World by Sean Dow is the first of a series of two books (so far). Leafy Green World by Sean Dow is an action thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat until the last page. The Leafy Green World by Sean Dow follows Dr. Brent Holcomb as he moves to Portland and tries to resurrect his life and his career. While in Portland Dr. Brent Holcomb  meets the girl of his dreams Robyn, however he soon longs that not everything is as it seems. This lead to quite the thrilling adventure.

I truly enjoyed the character of Dr. Brent Holcomb. My favorite part of the book was when he started to wake up and realize the trouble he was actually in and when he starts to set himself on the path to fixing the trouble that he is in. The fact that this book also involves a murder just made the book even better for me because there is nothing better than a murder thriller.

I was sent a free copy of this book for only my honest and unbiased review.
