My Review
Awoke (The Want Series) by K.T. Conte was a well-written book with a strong female character as the main character. I quickly found that Katya became my favorite character right from the beginning and she stayed me favorite character throughout the whole book. The author did a wonderful job in making Katya seem just like a real person with her desire to have a good life and been seen as normal even if she was not normal. I really enjoyed watching her grow as a character through out the pages of this book!

Perspective in Action
Using a fun and accessible graphic novel format, Perspective in Action features 33 easy-to-follow demonstrations to teach artists the major discoveries in perspective.
Perspective is a fundamental element in the development of art and for understanding spatial relationships, but it is an underserved topic in the world of art instruction. Author and artist David Chelsea takes readers through the major perspective-related developments in history, teaching them how to re-create these same experiments by leading artists in all fields (including drawing, painting, and sculpture). Covering a wide-range of mediums (pen and ink, paint, chalk, digital art, woodwork, and more), Perspective in Action gives readers a more hands-on approach to perspective, as opposed to the usual theoretical presentations found in other books.
Perspective in Action was a great book for learning to improve my drawing ability. I am very much a novice and some of it went over my head, but what I did understand will help to improve my art quite a bit. I found the author to be talented at not only art, but also at teaching through writing!

BOOK BLURB:
The night that eleven-year-old Grady Johnson looked out his window and wished upon a shooting star, his life changed forever.
Grady, his Ma, and younger sister Luanne are having a hard summer. Dad has died and the family isn’t the same. Though Ma is trying her best, Grady knows they don’t have enough money to get by.
The shooting star he saw was a space craft plunging to Earth, and landing at the back of their farm. Extraterrestrial engineer Ralwil Turth has one goal, to fix his power drive and go back home. But things don’t go as planned. Stuck in human form, he gets to know Grady and his family as he works on their farm. He starts to learn about what it means to be human, and the exotic charms of this planet like the taste of potatoes, and how amazing bugs are.
Ralwil grows to care for Grady and his family. On a trip to town, he realizes that money is what matters to humans, and is the cause of the family’s trouble. That night, he uses his technology to combine a twenty-dollar bill with an oak twig. Over the next week this grows to a towering tree, every leaf a twenty-dollar bill. This, Ralwil is sure, will solve all the family’s problems.
But the family’s wealth raises suspicion in this small town, and this soon leads to more trouble. With the family’s fate, and Ralwil’s life, on the line, Grady has to find the courage to help his family and save his friend.
Summer on Earth blends humor, adventure and poignancy to create an unforgettable story about finding home.

My Review
Summer on Earth was an awesome book about the love of family, the need for courage, and the power of a friend(human or not). I loved how Ralwil literally made a tree of money to help Grady and his family, but how the families wealth then brought them more problems. The reason I liked this part is because it felt real I have seen too many books where a character instantly becomes wealthy and no one questions it. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and it would be a must read for those in elementary and middle school.

It's 1972 and a seismic clash-of-cultures is rattling northern California. In the redneck town of Trinity Springs, rumors of hippies migrating up from San Francisco have residents bracing for an invasion. When Italian-American hometown boy and Berkeley graduate Sid Jackson is busted for growing pot on his deceased parents' farm, locals suspect the assault has begun. Will a crazy deferral program devised by the sheriff keep Sid out of prison? Or will a house full of eccentric strangers, a passionate love interest, and demons from his past be his undoing?
A "disarmingly appealing" tale of discrimination, transformation and restoration, Freaks is bursting with intrigue, drama, comic relief and romance. Reviewers agree this five-star, coming-of-age classic "very much reflects the attitude and mood of the times."

“As it relates to the complicated clash of culture and counterculture, Freaks acts as an authentic, strongly Seventies book. Northern California works as a strong presence in the novel that is vivid and omnipresent, but never overwhelming. Sure to intrigue and entertain, Freaks will have its digs in you before you realize how involved you’ve become.” — The Manhattan Book Review

THE SPECTER OF THE INDIAN: RACE, GENDER, AND GHOSTS IN AMERICAN SEANCES,

Genre: Historical Nonfiction
The Specter of the Indian unveils the centrality of Native American spirit guides during the emergent years of American Spiritualism. By pulling together cultural and political history; the studies of religion, race, and gender; and the ghostly, Kathryn Troy offers a new layer of understanding to the prevalence of mystically styled Indians in American visual and popular culture. The connections between Spiritualist print and contemporary Indian policy provide fresh insight into the racial dimensions of social reform among nineteenth-century Spiritualists. Troy draws fascinating parallels between the contested belief of Indians as fading from the world, claims of returned apparitions, and the social impetus to provide American Indians with a means of existence in white America. Rather than vanishing from national sight and memory, Indians and their ghosts are shown to be ever present. This book transports the readers into dimly lit parlor rooms and darkened cabinets and lavishes them with detailed séance accounts in the words of those who witnessed them. Scrutinizing the otherworldly whisperings heard therein highlights the voices of mediums and those they sought to channel, allowing the author to dig deep into Spiritualist belief and practice. The influential presence of Indian ghosts is made clear and undeniable.

My Review
The Specter of the Indian was a well-written book that I personally enjoyed reading. I found the book's approach to sharing elements of native american culture and spirituality interesting. This was a new type of book for me, but I was so glad that I took the time to read it as I feel that I have learned quite a bit from it. I would love it if the author wrote a sequel!

My Review
The Winner: A Ballroom Dance Novel by Erin Bomboy was a well written book about following your happiness and knowing what really makes a person happy. I loved the morale dilemmas that were in this book because they really made me stop and think about what I would do if I had to decide if I would rather be guaranteed a win unfairly or do my best fairly and win or lose on my own skill. Nina Fortunova and Carly Martindale were my two favorite characters because I loved their dynamic with each other and with their dance partners. Overall, I enjoyed this novel quite a bit!

My Review
As a psychology student I found Life Long by Ronald L. Ruiz to be particularly interesting with Ray Lopez's schizophrenia. I liked the way that it seemed very realistic and the role it played in the story. So often main characters are free of any and all mental problems even minor ones, which makes them all seem too perfect. I found Ray to be a very realistic character as he had very real flaws that played into his character and his decisions. Besides the well written psychological elements this book had a nice thrill of adventure mixed in with how Ray how he is on the run with a bag of cash. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book!

My Review
So first off I would advise reading Watcher before reading Carbon (Book Two in the Watcher Series) by AJ Eversley as the second book will be very confusing without the background information, character development, and plot line understanding gained from reading Watcher. I liked the fact that Sawyer Russo was still the main character even if she was no longer a Watcher, but instead a Carbon. I understand why she had to become a Carbon for the story line to progress onward, but I really liked her as a Watcher and I was sad to see her lose that. Sawyer may have changed, but unlike Katniss in the Hunger Games she never lost what made her Sawyer instead she maintained her personality and goals in the face of all the changes the she faced. Overall, I really enjoyed reading Carbon, but between the two Watcher was my favorite!

The Essential Instant Pot Cookbook covers each meal of the day, offering plenty of tried-and-true classic recipes, such as spicy beef and bean chili, a whole roasted chicken with mushroom sauce, and decadent New York cheesecake, alongside a hearty array of contemporary meals, such as Greek-style Gigantes beans with fresh feta, braised pork loin with balsamic vinegar and caramelized onions, buttery cauliflower mashed potatoes, pork adobo, and more! Whether you're looking to expand your pressure cooker recipe repertoire or seeking the ultimate gift for the Instant Pot aficionado, this is the book to have.
My Review
The Essential Instant Pot Cookbook is a well organized cookbook that is perfect for people looking to make easy meals for their family. The recipes are easy to understand and they are laid out beautifully. I found the images to be very appealing and I enjoyed the recipes that I made!

My Review
I am not an author, however I am a freelance writer and as such I was very interested in reading Overwhelmed Writer Rescue: Boost Productivity, Improve Time Management, and Replenish the Creator Within by Colleen M. Story. This book might be intended for authors, but in reality it is a great guide to any writer as it has great tips for managing work and time. I often feel like I am overworked and that I don't have enough time in each day to get everything done, due to this I am super excited to try out some of the strategies that I read about. I was relieved that I was not the only one who had these problems. Overall, this book was an easy to understand book that will help me to improve my life and my writing.
