WIDOW’S RUN

Inside the Book

Widows Run cover anim
Title: WIDOW’S RUN
Author: TG Wolff
Publisher: Down & Out Books
Pages: 236
Genre: Mystery/Thriller
BOOK BLURB:
One night in Rome. One car. One dead scientist. Italian police investigate, but in the end, all they have are kind words for the new widow. Months later, a video emerges challenging the facts. Had he stepped into traffic, or was he pushed? The widow returns to the police, where there are more kind words but no answers. Exit the widow.
Enter Diamond. One name for a woman with one purpose. Resurrecting her CIA cover, she follows the shaky video down the rabbit hole. Her widow’s run unearths a plethora of suspects:  the small-time crook, the mule-loving rancher, the lady in waiting, the Russian bookseller, the soon-to-be priest. Following the stink greed leaves in its wake reveals big lies and ugly truths. Murder is filthy business. Good thing Diamond likes playing dirty.
“TG Wolff’s novel is for crime-fiction fans who like it action-packed and hard-edged. Written with feisty panache, it introduces Diamond, one of the most aggressive, ill-tempered, and wholly irresistible heroines to ever swagger across the page.” –David Housewright, Edgar Award-winning author of Dead Man’s Mistress

My Review
WIDOW’S RUN  was a fast paced book once Diamond entered the fray! I really enjoyed how the author kept me guessing on how the story would end. The end was quite the surprise, but it fit the book perfectly and I loved that it was not predictable.

My Review
The Dog at the Gate: How a Throwaway Dog Becomes Special by Sunny Weber was a story that was a must read for any dog lover. It reminded me a bit of the overall feel of Black Beauty, yet it was also very different. I felt so bad for puppy Max as his life was far from easy and then he loses everything he had ever known when he is dropped at an animal shelter. Yet, I could not help, but hope that that was the start of a new life for Max. I could not help, but keep reading as I had to learn what was going to happen with Max. I enjoyed this book and I can't wait to read the next one in the series!

Book Title The Last Thing She Said (A Chris Matheson Cold Case Mystery #3) by Lauren Carr
Category:  Adult Fiction (18 +),  386 pages
Genre:  Mystery
Publisher:  Acorn Book Services
Release date:   July 22, 2019
Content Rating:  PG-13 (Lauren Carr's books are murder mysteries, so there are murders involved. Occasionally, a murder will happen on stage. There is sexual content, but always behind closed doors. Some mild swearing (a hell or a damn few and far between). No F-bombs!
"Too many twists and turns to easily share about this book. Nevertheless, Carr has pulled off another "hit" that kept me reading in one setting until the clues were so well together that the villain fell into our laps...or Chris's, LOL Carr has put a lot into the book beyond the mysteries this time...Characters enjoyed chocotinis, visited book stores...and even blundered into getting engaged (the ring had been purchased 4 months ago)... But, for me, a special thank you for the political spoof at a time when politics at the national level is devastating, gave me a laugh and lightened the load of it all!" - Review by Glenda Bixler, Book Reader's Heaven

Book Description:
“I’m working on the greatest mystery ever,” was the last thing noted mystery novelist Mercedes Livingston said to seven-year-old Chris Matheson before walking out of Hill House Hotel never to be seen again.

For decades, the writer’s fate remained a puzzling mystery until an autographed novel and a letter put a grown-up Chris Matheson on the trail of a cunning killer. With the help of a team of fellow retired law enforcement officers, each a specialist in their own field of investigation, Chris puts a flame to this cold case to uncover what had really happened that night Mercedes Livingston walked out of Hill House Hotel. Watch out! The clues are getting hot!

My Review
Hurricane Dog: A Tale of Betrayal, Redemption & Change by Sunny Weber does not follow Max, but instead follows Pit bull mix Gator and puppy mill survivor Magnolia. This is a great book for middle school aged children as it helps them to understand what animals can go through when abandoned whether because of a natural disaster or for other reasons. I could not help, but really connect to poor Gator and hope that he could find a good family worthy of trust.
