My Review
MICKEY ON THE MOVE FARMING by Michelle Wagner  was a great kids book. I liked the farm setting and all the animal pictures. The fact that Mickey is deaf, but is able to hear with cochlear implants, was really cool. I liked the way this would help kids understand a bit more about deafness.

Meet the Author

Shannon O’Gorman is originally from Winnipeg, Canada and has been living in San Jose, California for the past 10 years enjoying the sunshine. She completed a BA in English at the University of Manitoba, with a specialization in Creative Writing. After university, the travel bug bit her hard and she spent the next 10 years traveling the world and supporting herself with odd jobs ( lots of fruit picking, waitressing, temp. work and ESL teaching). She spent many years in London, a few years in Israel on a moshav, and several years in Hong Kong. And then she found herself in Japan, where she married, had a daughter and ran an English school with her husband for 10 years. Throughout this time she kept diaries and wrote many short stories, some of which were published in small ex-pat magazines. Eventually, she returned to Canada and taught international students at U of Winnipeg, and newcomers to Canada at a technical college and was a teacher trainer for new ESL teachers. One day her husband said, “Guess what I got a job in California…” and not long after they packed up the car and drove south.  She taught ESL again in the USA, and one day decided to walk the Camino de Santiago a 500 mile walk across France to Spain and wrote a book about it, The Camino de Santiago: One Wanderful Walk, and found her love for writing again. She also completed a book of short stories about her travels, Some Wanderful Times and started a book series featuring the character of Rose Hawthorne. The first book of the series is Seven Wanders: The Ancient Wanders. Last year she retired from teaching, and is enjoying writing every day with her dog at her feet.

Her latest book is the mystery, Rose Hawthorne: The Irish Wanders.

You can visit Shannon at Facebook and Instagram.

My Review

I found that I quite enjoyed the mystery in the pages of Rose Hawthorne: The Irish Wanders. I really liked the combination of Rose and her grandaughter Samantha, the age difference between the two offered two different view points that I really liked!

GUEST POST FOR BOOKS FOR BOOKS
BY: William A. Glass, author of Off Broadway: A Marriage Drama
Suggested best friends for Dave Knight, my main character.
Recently, I was asked to name a literary character Dave Knight, the protagonist of Off Broadway, might
like to dine with. My answer was Mrs. Waters. That got me wondering about other characters in literature
who would be kindred spirits with Dave.
It’s no surprise that the first character that comes to mind who would befriend my main character is Tom
Jones. Like Dave, Tom is an unrepentant but lovable scamp. They would thoroughly enjoy going out on
the town together, hoisting a few brews, and maybe meeting some ladies.
Another literary figure who might chill with my main character is Yossarian. Like Dave, he’s a study in
alienation. Who knows if maybe, before the war, Yossarian was socialized? But by the time we meet him
in Catch-22, Yossarian is a gone cat. His orderly mind has been blown by what passes for military logic.
Dave Knight’s alienation has a simpler explanation. He has Asperger’s. This is not spelled out in the
book, but there are clues. It’s why he, like Yossarian, is of this world but not part of it.
Dave grew up with kids like Ben Meecham. Both are military brats, but they would never have met since
Dave’s father was army while “The Great Santini” was a Marine. Still, if they had known each other while
growing up, they might have played touch football after school or gone to the post rifle range on
Saturdays. A difference between the two characters is that Ben is a good student and an athlete, while
Dave is a delinquent.
A real-life literary character Dave would relate to is Frank McCourt, who wrote the memoir Angela’s
Ashes. The two differ in that Frank grew up in abject poverty while Dave’s military family never lacked
life’s necessities. What makes them similar is both of their fathers were degenerate alcoholics, and their
mothers were loving but ineffective. Frank and Dave are both blessed with intelligence. They use it to
escape their families at the earliest possible opportunity.
My Review
I personally found OFF-BROADWAY: A MARRIAGE DRAMA by William A. Glass to be a well-written and entertaining fictional family drama book. The author did a great job in handling the adult themes in that while they were very much there he did not make them too graphic. I found I really felt for both Cindy and Dave Knight who got married too young at different times in the book.

Author A.C. Turner
Meet the Author:

A. C. Turner's writing career began in the 1980s with a focus on screenplays. In that time, and with the help of his agent, Anne Getty, he was able to option two of them, Shoplift and Hercules Down and Out, to major film companies. Unfortunately, neither went into production, but that didn't stop the Los Angeles Times from featuring him on the front page of their Sunday edition on up-and-coming writers in Los Angeles. He then moved on to write two plays, Chickenscratch and Down and Out in Sioux Falls, which were produced at the Hayworth Theatre in Los Angeles. He achieved all of this while raising three kids and coaching high school and junior college football, predominantly in inner-city Los Angeles. After taking twenty years off from writing, he got the itch back in his mid-fifties. He wrote Semper Fi Brothers as a screenplay and entered it in Final Draft's screenwriting contest, where it placed third out of nine thousand. The story was inspired by the military exploits of his career-soldier dad and his three overseas tours in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam as well as his Army daughter's four tours, including one in Afghanistan. The script was given to a large production company again, which was exciting at first, but when Covid-19 hit and the script found itself on the back burner, he decided to run with it and turn it into a novel, feeling the story was too inspirational not to be told.

Inside the Book

Title: PROMISE OF THE HEART
Author: Susan Berry
Publisher: Independent
Pages: 203
Genre: Clean Romance

Book Blurb:

After a distasteful first meeting, and a rocky start to their romance, Maggie Kinsley has been happily married to Desmond for the last eleven months. And although she was often alone when he traveled for business, she rather enjoyed how he passionately greeted her when returning home.

So when he received a letter naming him as executor of a property that belonged to a deceased family friend and had to leave for a few weeks, Maggie should have been content as she kissed him goodbye. But there was something about the whole thing that made her uneasy. Why was Desmond so evasive with her when she asked him about the previous owner. And why had he insisted she not tell anyone of his plans to stay on the property. Maggie soon found the answers to her questions were more than just a woman’s intuition, but rather something that not even her wildest, darkest fears could have foreseen.

“I so enjoyed the long awaited final book to the trilogy the author so lovingly created. Maggie’s story has a wonderful ending and she’ll be in my heart and mind for a long time.” – Amazon

Meet The Author

Since Susan Berry was a young girl, she loved to write. Her imagination was filled with stories that she couldn’t write down fast enough. But it wasn’t until her grandmother had given her a Harlequin romance novel to occupy her time on a long, boring car ride, that she fell in love with reading romance. The excitement of the characters first meeting, and the dance of the heart that followed, left Susan frantically turning pages. From that day on, Susan spent her free time with her beloved grandmother, reading the latest novels they’d retrieved from a used book store, or the local second hand shop. That reading eventually turned into the writing of her own romance novels. Novels filled with characters who have not yet found love, but eventually find a way to overcome romantic troubles with humor, wit, and the consumption of lots and lots of chocolate.

Susan’s latest book is the clean romance suspense, Promise of the Heart.

My Review

Promise of the Heart was an amazing read! It was way more than just a simple romance as it has mystery and suspense too! I really liked Maggie and I liked her drive to find out the truth and her willingness to trust her gut.

The Wrong Side of Murder is another wonderful cozy mystery by author Lauren Carr. It has all the elements that draw me in - an intelligent female lead, an equally smart boyfriend who partners to help her, a complicated plot where clues are slowly revealed, people who aren't what they seem to be, comedic moments to balance the darker ones, and several quirky pets full of personality.

It's a wonderful book to escape into at the end of the day. And get ready to read into the wee hours as, if you're like me, you won't be able to stop reading until the mystery is revealed.

My Review
I have read a few of the F.I.G. mystery books and while I have enjoyed each of them this quickly became my favorite. I really loved THE SERAPHIM'S SONG - Book 5, The F.I.G. Mysteries by Barbara Casey. I really liked seeing how the different women have changed and grown from the start of the series to this book. While I enjoyed all of the characters I have to say that I really liked Dara and the mystery of the unknown language she pursued in her studies.
